The black and white treatment is really the best (short of making it blue to add to the idea of cold). Looks like a fair amount of damage was done. Hope the storm has finally left the area. I won't tell you about our current weather other than to say... it ain't snowing or raining or cold. Sorry bout that. blue does bring a cooling look to a pic just as a hint of yellow/orange can warm up a pic ... it's fun to see how messing around with WB in PP can so change a photo from a freezing cold icicle to one that's looks to be thawing....just by the colour tones rendered. About the ice storm. Well no more freezing rain but the ice is still stuck on everything... and a 1/2 of ice is heavy. The trees are still under strain, luckily we haven't had strong winds or for sure we'd loose more branches and whole trees. Here's a pic of some fellow from around the corner. (so to speak)

No way! Not gonna work! You're not telling me that a man in shorts was jogging on those icy streets! Isn't photoshop magical? Looks like a fair amount of damage was done.

Looks like a fair amount of damage was done. not PP... this guy looked like an eastern European to me. In the full size pic a guy shoveling snow all dressed up in a heavy winter cloths made a nice foil for our Mr. Macho here. Somehow, this particular pic has a good dose of that illusive 3D affect. yep, I lot of nice trees were felled.

That's insane! You're saying that the image of the nutcase wasn't photoshopped? Even Lin looked and said, "No way." Wow... guess it takes all kinds. Good catch.

Good catch. yep it is as it was...actually, I was out with my camera for quite a while and this guy jogged past me like 3 times... So that means he went around the block (not a small block mind you) at least 3 times. He caught me off guard in this shot... The camera was set to Manual and I was shooting into the bright mid-day light in back of me in this shot. now compare that fellow to this young man... who was out shooting with his big Canon DSLR while wearing ice skates. Actually, with my construction boots slipping and sliding on the shear ice, he had the better footing. After asking him for the shot he asked me to shoot him with his camera.... (it had a nice quiet shutter) the flash helped the pic tremendously.... not only on his face which would have been in dark shadow but it made the ice on the branches up above visable... For this whole ice-storm series it was beyond me how to capture the ice on the branches while also getting enough of the scene to give an overall landscape look. Maybe more flash use would have given me that ice storm landscape look. I could have gone with remote flashes pointing up into the branches but that didn't occur to me. And besides that would have been a lot of effort. Unfortunately, to those who have never dealt with an ice-storm these pics look fairly typical of snow laden branches..not the unusual ice encased branches. There were times when out in the midst of the shimmering light that it was like looking into a brightly lit stained glass window.... just absolutely breath takingly stunning. But I couldn't get that look into the camera.

Nice lighting on the young man. I think you did a good job on conveying the enormity and beauty of the ice storm. He must be pretty sure of himself on those skates, holding that expensive Canon.

His cam was an expensive one... I know that because it was one of those models that did not have a pop up flash.... and yep I guess he must have been sure of himself on those skates... the hard rubber soles on my work boots weren't so confidence inspiring I can tell you.
