I have posted some holiday pictures, and finally have some time to do some more. I'll try and not kill the forum, I took 150+ photos there. They are also on Facebook, if you want to see some more. I can't find the link for the non-Facebookers to see them as well, but I'll post it as soon as I have figured it. Gamkaskloof (valley or ravine) is a fertile area in a semi-desert region. Access was very difficult, and supposedly gave the nick name to the region. Another version was that "The Hell" was a particular isolated spot in the valley. Now when men had an overdose of nagging wives and screaming kids, they would take their livestock into this area and herd them there. All in the company of similar minded male buddies and a good supply of locally produced moonshine. When eventually men and livestock were herded out by wives and other male family members, the wives were glad that their husbands have came back from "hell". In the 60's they finally build a road, which today can be traveled by 4X4's, or 2X4's with a high clearance, and in my opinion, a skilled driver. The road resulted in people moving out, and soon there were no one living there, accept for one family, who still own a farm there. The valley today forms part of a World Heritage Site, and is owned by provincial nature conservation. The old house have gone to ruin, and replicas were build, which serve as overnight accommodation. Riana with one 'n' you've been holding out on us... these are wonderful landscapes and the pic of the deer like thing was pretty darned good too!
For someone like me... your mountain scenes look so odd and foreign like they are from Mars or South Africa or somewhere, but not from anywhere around here.
Your FaceBook link shows a whack of good photos.. You've learned a lot from those courses that you took. If I may be so bold to say.

The holiday was in October, and life has just been crazy afterwards. Of course I took a myriad of pictures, as usual. Trying my best with the photos.... More to come, I'll post the album links as I upload.

Glad to hear that you're not bored with life after your holiday. did you try for those panoramic photos where you take 2 or 3 wide shots and then with software stitch them together to make one super duper wide shot?

Charlie, I've used Hugin for panoramas from overlapping shots and it works great! Lots of parameters available to control but the defaults do fine most of the time. It is free. Check it out here: hugin.sourceforge.netVic
