We've had some dreadful bushfires in the Blue Mountains just to the west of here, I took this shot of the sunset through the smoke. Click to enlarge.... Cheers, Rob.

Really sad about all that acreage being destroyed. Do they know how it started? Lin and I have been following a YouTube couple as they traveled along the west coast from Sydney up to Cairns. Sure is beautiful country. Your picture doesn't look real... looks almost surreal... like another planet.

James, 3 weeks ago today, a combination of a very dry winter, 60mph hot winds and for various reasons the mountains exploded in fire. One fire was started by our military, another from the wind bringing down a power line and the other a lightning strike. Over 200 homes destroyed .... tragic!! The fires are contained now but are still burning. Supposed to rain this weekend ... my fingers are crossed.

You can gladly have our rain Rob. Even the human element can't compensate for a bolt of lightning, but the military starting one of them, madness.

Yes Paul, it was an explosive exercise, complete insanity with weather conditions as they were. Major investigations are underway, but the military have fessed up and said 'yup, we did it'. DUH!!!!

Hi Rob, I have been following the news about those fires, and what a heartbreaking mess. Hearing that the military started one fire reminds me of a big fire we had a few years ago. There were strong winds blowing when the forest service decided to do a controlled burn. It burned alright, it took out a big chuck of the town of Los Alamos.I sure hope yours get under control soon and you do get some rain.

I know you guys have terrible fires too, and when fanned by strong wind it makes fighting them impossible. We are supposed to get some good rain at last in the next day or two .... fingers are crossed.

Nice photo under sad circumstances. I'm feeling warmth when I look at it (temperature/ humidity, not warm/fuzzy).
