Living on the coast as I do, I'm also jealous. We don't have the deciduous trees and because we rarely get frost, the few that we have don't produce these vivid colors. These are beautiful combined with the green grass and blue sky. Lovely.

Pretty! Do they actually produce pears? No they are a decorative tree but do have berries that can create a mess if the birds don't get to them in time. This type of tree became extremely popular here about 30 years ago with the name of Bradford Pear, which turned out to be rather ugly when they matured and did not stand up to weather well at all. They have since been hybridized even more to Aristocrat Pears and several others that have the more erect stature of the ones in my picture. Unfortunately they still cannot handle much wind and will split.
