Nice shots James! Got a similar combo in Northern California between Chico and Paradise. A covered bridge, a Mill by a stream. Milling by water power. Peaceful reminders of times gone bye. Thanks James, Vic

Thanks for looking and commenting, Vic. "Peaceful reminders of times gone by." Yeah... when I come upon these scenes in real life, I pause and try to imagine what it was like back in the day. Sort of puts me in mind of the Hudson Valley and the times of the Legend of Sleepy Hollow.

It's sure nice to see places like that still in use instead of being torn down for a shopping mall. Nice shots, James.

Thanks, Chris. The thing is, they were so well built back in the day that they continue to stand. It would take a tornado to knock the mill or the bridge down. Thankfully a few of these reminders of our past still stand.

Thanks. Can you imagine going through that thing one late and stormy night with the wind howling and the snow flying everywhere? My imagination is too wild! LOL

Great shots! Proof that a 5 megapixel camera can perform as well as its modern counterparts. Makes me wish I hadn't sold my DX6490.

When you consider the trade-offs (i.e. monitor calibration, reduced size for internet viewing) a smaller megapixel camera can deliver just as well. Trouble is... it buffers a little slowly but still... what colors!

Thanks, Pam. That period of history (in which these bridges were built) is of interest to me. Granted, I wouldn't want to have lived back then and been forced to give up all of our conveniences BUT I sure would love to spend a day. That's why Lin and I always visit historic sites and historic villages. I would love to go back when it's snowing but being on the west coast, it's just too far to travel.

LOL... yes, I do miss it especially around Christmas. What I don't miss is shoveling out my driveway after a snowplow has plugged it in in the early hours of morning. How well I remember hearing the plows out at 2 a.m. and thinking... great... tomorrow the driveway I spent two hours shoveling will be totally blocked and sure enough! Another hour before breakfast saw me working up a sweat to break through the ice and slush. And right now I've unfortunately thrown out my lower back so I can't imagine breaking open a blocked in driveway. BUT... I LOVE the look of wintry snow... snowy lanes and bridges... snow falling peacefully through a purple evening sky. I really do miss that. When I was a kid growing up in Niagara, I would be playing hockey on a snowy pond when my mum would call me to come home. And how I rolled around on the floor as my toes thawed and my mum held them to warm them up! Good memories.

I have so many memories also when i was a kid...ice skating...gosh we would be out for hours...we built a few fires too to keep warm & thaw out, LOL...sledding...& oh man I have shoveled so much snow then ..not so much now though...I still love going for a walk on a quiet winter day...big huge flakes falling...but still...Winter is too long...i say snow Dec-Jan...then have Spring start in Feb... that's about as long as I can deal with winter now... It is beautiful though...looking out...after a fresh snowfall & seeing all the sparkling snow diamonds We are in for a winter storm starting tonight into Wednesday....
