so here is my 2nd try at a low light shot with the Samsung 8 meg phone camera.... this time the camera was braced against a stud in the wall at the far end of the basement. The portrait mode and wide lens did enhance the apparent size of this basement rec room (about 40 feet long) Note the ceiling joists... they are the new style where the center is actually just 1/2 think chipboard instead of solid 1 1/2thick lumber. The brighter pic shows the family room.... can you find my black coffee thermos?

A few thoughts come to mind. The low light picture is fairly saturated with noise whereas given more light, the Samsung holds its own (other than a bit of distortion due to the wide angle). Actually, with images that are not overly enlarged, these phones can deliver the goods, albeit they're never going to match a decent camera.
Aside: what do you mean... 1/2 think (thick?) chipboard? Do you mean to tell me that they're now using chipboard joists?

Man, I'm shocked about chipboard joists. I guess I've been living in some sort of dream world, eh?!
The camera phone is definitely better than nothing. And I fully suspect better and better camera phones as time goes on. I've used my own in a pinch and the resulting images were pretty decent.
